Happy Thanksgiving! (USA Holiday)

I will be taking a break for just over a week. If I get back to blogging when the holiday is over, great! If not, that is okay too. I am currently experiencing problems uploading pictures to my photo hosting site which makes blogging extremely frustrating. I hope the site has resolved the issues when I get back.

For those of you who celebrate this holiday, I hope you will have a fabulous day!

Wisdom of Cats

Seek Warmth Wherever You Can Find It
(And Block It From Your Human)

The space heater is on a footstool. So, Abby could not lie on the floor in front of the “fire” and be warm. Instead, she was content to be a close as she can on the recliner. Of course, she was not happy with me disturbing her highness. Ha!

By the way, It is Thanksgiving here in the states.

Happy Thanksgiving to all those who celebrate!

Dan has this week and the following week off. So, I will not been into blogging much. I do have a couple of posts scheduled for Fridays. But, not much else. Dan also has a few weeks off in December. I am much more interested in being with him than blogging. I hope y’all will understand the lack of posts. I will post whenever I have the time and inclination to do so.

A Week in Pictures (#9)

Note: This post is several days late due to the holidays and being busy. Posts will be sporadic due to it being Christmas time.

Becker’s White Butterfly 11/16/2012

I saw a rather sizeable white butterfly fluttering about the tiny yellow flowers late in the afternoon. I dashed inside, dumped my stuff and grabbed my camera. This is a rare butterfly sighting for me. By the way, another link to Becker’s White Butterfly is here.

Butterfly 11/17/2012

I spied this little critter resting on the siding of our house. It is missing a sizeable portion of a wing. However, it is still able to flutter/fly. By the way, this is the only picture I took on this day.

Ugly Fly 11/18/2012

{To see a larger image, go here.}

This critter was resting on the concrete slab of our back porch. I decided to take a picture to see what it may look like up close. Ugh! It is worst up close! Ha! By the way, I suspect that these critters mature into one of those ugly dragonflies. I have not had much time to do research.

Hairy Caterpillar 11/19/2012

{To see a larger image, go here.}

These critters are so cute! They do vary in coloring and markings and I believe they eventually become moths. I am keeping an eye on two chrysalis formed from these types of caterpillars. It is interesting to know that the hair becomes a part of the chrysalis. I am hoping to catch one coming out as a moth. By the way, my advice would be to never touch a caterpillar with your bare hands. Some caterpillars have toxic defenses.

The Annunciation Catholic Church in St. Hedwig, Texas 11/20/2012

The first time I saw this church was at sunset. The steeple looked blue. (This picture was taken late in the morning in harsh sunlight. I will have to go back late in the evening to get a better picture.) This is actually a beautiful building in a very tiny town established in 1855 by a group of Polish immigrants fleeing poverty, cultural harassment, and religious persecution. One of these days, I am going to go inside the church – it supposedly even more beautiful inside.

Satsuma 11/21/2012

These Satsuma were harvested by my nephews. The plant was given to my Dad by whom I call my dad-in-law years ago and it was planted at the lake house. The boys brought over 230 of these fruits!

Spices for the Turkey (Rub) 11//22/2012

A variety of spices to rub on the Turkey for Thanksgiving dinner. Dan cooked the bird. By the way, it turned out delicious.

Everything Bread

But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.
Matthew 4:4

But oh, this was sooo delicious! Ha!

I saw the recipe for this bread in a Taste of Home magazine (Oct/Nov 2010 issue), ripped it out, and wanted to try right away.

So, I gathered all the ingredients and attempted to make the bread last Sunday. It turned out rather well for my (our) first attempt at making this. I now know not to be shy about putting the egg wash on top before baking it - just lather it on liberally - don't be afraid!

Since Thanksgiving is tomorrow for us who live in the States, I thought this was appropriate. Plus, I know a few who have been wanting to see pictures of what we made last Sunday since I posted about it on facebook.

And he took bread, and gave thanks, and brake [it], and gave unto them, saying, This is my body which is given for you: this do in remembrance of me.

Luke 22:19

Let us give thanks in and for all things. It wouldn't seem like Thanksgiving without giving thanks for you! Thank you all for hanging in there with me and this silly blog.

Note: I will be "breaking bread" with some of my family and most likely will not be online again until Monday as I will be out of town. I hope you all will have a wonderful Thanksgiving! And, for those of you who don't celebrate and/or live outside the States, have a blessed weekend! In all things, be safe!
